Sound Design

My idea for the sound design moving forward is to try and incorporate digital/technological noises to create slightly over-exaggerated oppressive environments within the DMV. Those noises you don't really notice unless your ears subconsciously tune into it and then you can't get it out of your head.  Below is a small rough sound design for the DMV.

Music

My vision for the music in this film would definitely lean closer to the likes of musique concrete using sounds like dial tones and other technological noises in both the sound design and music.  The ultimate goal is to have a couple of original tracks produced for the final product.  It's also worth noting that I would only like to use music when the emotion of the scene has already been established through other means.  This means not using it as a crutch for the audience to emotionally connect with the film and it's characters.  Linked below is a small Spotify playlist with songs that will have some sort of influence over the final score.  Due to the nature of Wix I can't actually just post this playlist, but I still wish to talk about it and will be listing the songs and their influences below as well.

Songs

Korben Dallas

The Fifth Element

Yet another example of great world building coming from The Fifth Element. As I mentioned in my statement I think the music did an amazing job at tying the world together.  I would like to point out that I don't want to necessarily get this funky and exotic, It's really only in the playlist as a reminder what good original music can do for a film.

Heptapod B

Arrival

I think something a kin to this track could go well at the end of the movie.  I like the crescendo in the beginning and I think a fast tempo works well with electronica-esque music.

Dial Up

Childish Gambino

I really like how raw and unedited a lot of the tones in this track are.  The brevity of it also made me think that it could be a good idea to use tones as stingers like this in between scenes to help with transitions.

Dial Tone

Rebuke

I'm going to be honest here.  I'm not necessarily really into this song, but that's not to say it doesn't have a place on the playlist.  On one hand I do like the sounds used and I like how it demonstrates these electronic sounds.  I also think it serves as an example of what I want to stay away from.  That heavy synth bass and booming repetitive rhythm is a no go for me. It's a film not a club.

Dial Me Up

Neuroc

I think something similar to this could work for the montage of Adam running through the halls.  It's still has a bit too much synth bass and sounds like it's almost from the 80's.

The Hunt

Turbo Kid

Once again I think that this is the general feeling I would like to go for during the montage through the offices.  Much like dial me up it still is potentially a bit too much synth bass.
